In response to the rising number of smartphone thefts worldwide, Samsung is urging its users to activate the new anti-theft features on their Galaxy devices. The update to One UI 7 introduces a comprehensive security package that is effective even against particularly sophisticated theft methods.
Samsung is expanding its security measures with the One UI 7 interface to include new anti-theft features. These are designed to ensure that personal data remains protected even in complex attack scenarios. The new measures include motion pattern recognition, biometric security at unfamiliar locations, and delayed access protection. These features are already being rolled out on several current Galaxy models and will gradually reach more devices.
New Security Standard for Samsung Galaxy Devices
With the update to One UI 7, Samsung has introduced a range of new security features, according to the Samsung Newsroom. The goal is to protect users from the consequences of device loss or theft, especially in situations where attackers might have access to PINs or biometric data.
The anti-theft feature package includes multiple layers of protection that work together to provide a higher level of security. A central element is the “Lock on Theft Detection.” Using artificial intelligence, the device also detects suspicious motion patterns, such as being suddenly snatched from the hand. If such behavior is detected, the screen locks automatically.
Offline and Remote Locking as Basic Features
Another component of Samsung’s new anti-theft features is the “Offline Device Lock.” This function ensures that the device automatically locks after being disconnected from the network for an extended period—a protective measure that works even without an internet connection. This is complemented by the “Remote Lock” option, which allows a lost or stolen device to be locked remotely using your phone number and a security code. This gives users the ability to secure their data and utilize further recovery options.
Anti-Theft Measures with Biometric Security
The newly integrated anti-theft features include “Identity Verification.” In unfamiliar environments, the device requires biometric authentication to confirm security-related changes, such as disabling location services or changing screen locks.
A central element of this function is the “Security Delay,” which triggers a one-hour waiting period if someone attempts to reset biometric data. This delay is intended to give users time to lock their device from another device.

Availability and Activation
The new security features are included by default on the Galaxy S25 series and have already been rolled out for other models such as the Galaxy S24, S23, and S22 series, as well as the foldable devices Galaxy Z Fold 6, Z Flip 6, Fold 5, and Flip 5. More models will follow.
You can activate the features through the system settings under: “Settings > Security and Privacy > Device Loss Protection > Anti-Theft.” There, you can also define “Safe Places”–locations where biometric authentication is not required.

What to Do in Case of Emergency
If you lose a device or it is stolen, Samsung recommends immediately visiting the “Samsung Find” website. There, you can lock, locate, ring, or—if necessary—completely erase the device. You should also change the passwords for your Samsung and Google accounts via their respective websites to prevent unauthorized access to linked services.
