Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which impresses with its slim design and improved outer display. However, a drawback remains the lack of S Pen support. Despite this, the Fold 7 offers a significant improvement over previous models, as the hands-on review demonstrates.
Samsung remains the leader in the foldable market in Germany. With the new Galaxy Z Fold 7, the company has introduced significant improvements that make the device more appealing for everyday use. The foldable smartphone brings some remarkable innovations, as the first hands-on test shows. Previous models were too bulky and heavy for many users, but the new device is noticeably slimmer and lighter.
Galaxy Z Fold 7–slimmer and with a new hinge
In recent years, Samsung has continuously improved the Fold models. The Galaxy Z Fold 7, at 8.9 millimeters thick, is the thinnest foldable smartphone in Germany and Europe. It weighs only 215 grams, making it significantly lighter compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

When folded, the Fold 7 hardly differs from regular smartphones. The outer screen has grown to 6.5 inches. This outer display is not only larger than the 6.3-inch screen of the Fold 6, but it also has a narrower frame. The thin and light casing feels good in the hand. For use as a tablet, the device can be unfolded to offer an impressive 8-inch foldable display. Overall, the reduced weight and improved handling make the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 practical for everyday use.
The current device also features a new hinge. Samsung has completely redesigned it, which is one reason for the slimmer design. However, one feature was sacrificed: the device no longer supports the S-Pen. Users who used the Fold as a digital notepad will have to rely on remaining stocks of the Fold 6 and the S-Pen.

Camera improvements
In return, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 offers a 200-megapixel camera, which is also used in the Galaxy S25 Ultra and S25 Edge. The camera construction is 18 percent flatter, although the camera block protrudes significantly. Additionally, there is a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera and a triple optical telephoto camera with 10 megapixels.
The front camera has also received an upgrade. Samsung has installed a 10-megapixel camera in the inner display of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which is an improvement compared to previous models that only had a 4-megapixel camera. However, the camera in the inner display is noticeable due to a small black hole.
Powerful processor
The Fold 7 uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor in a high-clocked “Made for Galaxy” variant. It comes with 12 gigabytes (GB) of RAM in the 256 and 512 GB internal storage variants. The manufacturer also offers a 1 TB variant with 16 GB RAM exclusively in its online store.

The battery capacity of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is 4,400 milliampere-hours (mAh), with a maximum charging power of 25 watts. Despite the same capacity as the Fold 6, the runtime could be longer thanks to the more efficient processor. A more detailed test will show this.
