Alongside the iPhone 17, Apple has introduced a new 40-watt fast charger that can boost up to 60 watts. The “40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max” was initially available only in a few countries with a specific plug type. Now, Apple is bringing the device to more countries.
New Plug Type
Until now, the charger was only available with plug type A, limiting its availability to the U.S., Canada, China, Japan, Mexico, Taiwan, and the Philippines. As reported by “MacRumors,” the new iPhone power adapter is now also available in the UK, Ireland, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Singapore, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia.
For these countries, the charger comes in a new variant with plug type G, which has three prongs. Despite the more complex design with an integrated fuse—as required by British standards—the plug remains foldable for transport.
New Charging Standard Only with iPhone Power Adapter
With the iPhone 17, Apple is the first manufacturer to release a smartphone that supports USB Power Delivery 3.2. The new standard allows the battery to reach 50 percent in just 20 minutes. However, the new Apple power adapter is required.

USB Power Delivery 3.2 is the latest version of the widely used fast-charging standard. The key innovation is called Adjustable Voltage Supply (AVS). This allows the charger to adjust its output voltage flexibly, rather than working in fixed steps. This results in more efficient energy transfer, less heat generation, and overall faster charging times.

“Dynamic Power” Adapter with Boost Function
Apple’s new charger is the first to support PD 3.2. It delivers up to 40 watts of power but can “dynamically reach up to 60 watts,” according to the product description. Through PD 3.2, the iPhone and adapter exchange data in real-time to optimally control the charging power.
This technology enables significantly shorter charging times: the iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max reach 50 percent battery charge in just 20 minutes. The iPhone Air, which only supports PD 2.0, takes about ten minutes longer to reach the same charge level—despite having a smaller battery.
Germany Still Left Out
While the new power adapter is now available in more regions, there is still no variant with plug type C, also known as the “Europlug.” Apple confirmed to TECHBOOK that the “Dynamic Power” adapter will not be coming to Germany for the time being. This means users in Germany cannot fully utilize the new fast-charging standard of the iPhone 17. So far, no other manufacturer offers a PD 3.2-capable device.
At least in Germany, numerous chargers with Power Delivery 3.1 are already available. These allow the iPhone 17 to charge up to 40 watts—but that’s the limit. The iPhone cannot take advantage of devices with more power. The new boost function with up to 60 watts remains exclusive to Apple’s PD 3.2 adapter.
