Secret writing or party attraction–blacklight can be used for many purposes and often creates a wow effect. TECHBOOK shows you how to turn your smartphone’s flashlight into a blacklight LED.
For this TECH HACK, you will need:
- a few strips of transparent tape
- a blue marker
- a purple marker
What blacklight is useful for
There are moments when blacklight is quite practical. Glowing nail polishes and UV tattoos are not only trendy in nightlife. You can also use it to check if the hotel bed sheets are really clean. The same goes for the toilet. A quick inspection with the lamp provides clarity.
Step 1
Generously place a strip over your smartphone’s LED light and color the area with the blue marker.

Step 2
Repeat the process with a new strip of tape and the blue marker.

Step 3
For the third layer, use the purple marker.

Done!
In dark rooms, when the smartphone light is on, a spectrum is created that is very similar to real blacklight. Of course, the LED does not replace conventional blacklight, as the smartphone’s radiation in the ultraviolet range is much lower. But it’s a small workaround–have fun trying it out!
