Google has rolled out the Feature Drop for March 2026. The update not only brings practical improvements but also new tools that make the smartphone experience even more versatile. All Pixel models from the Pixel 6 onward and Android smartphones still within the update period will receive the new features in the coming days.
Pixel Feature Drop: Circle-to-Search and Personalized Apps
The focus of the Pixel Feature Drops is the enhanced Circle-to-Search function. This allows for more targeted image searches. If you spot an outfit, you can simply mark it with a circle, and Google will find matching clothing items. Live displays are also improved: They now additionally show sports events and financial information–but only if users follow teams on Google or have set up Google Finance for market trends.
Additionally, the well-known “Now Playing” feature, which automatically recognizes songs in the vicinity, gets its own app. Pixel users can view the history of all recognized titles, mark favorites, and play songs directly in music apps. Google is also enhancing the visuals: With new AI-generated app icons, all icons on the home screen can be displayed in a uniform design. An example of this is the SpongeBob SquarePants design package.

More Security for Calls
Another important point: Pixel 9 and newer models receive fraud detection in the phone app. It analyzes speech patterns commonly found in fraud attempts and warns users with a notification if suspicious activity is detected. This aims to better protect users from scam calls.
Endless Scrolling and Family Entertainment
Not only Pixel users benefit from the update; owners of current Android devices also receive exciting new features. Android Auto now offers more family entertainment, such as educationally approved “Teacher-Approved” games for children aged three to twelve.
Also new is Google Play Shorts. These are short videos that introduce various apps and provide recommendations. Users can watch the clips directly in the Play Store to discover new applications. The concept is reminiscent of social media feeds. You can scroll through the videos as long as you like. This makes the Play Store more interactive, offering not only traditional app information but also entertainment in a short video format. Whether you like it is a matter of taste–but it’s practical for anyone who wants to quickly get to know new apps.
Further improvements in the Android Feature Drop include live locations in Google Messages, luggage tracking via the Find Hub, and new emoji functions in the Gboard keyboard. For those who want to learn all the details, more information is available on the Google website.
