Xiaomi might take an unusual approach with a new smartphone. Instead of opting for a classic format or a foldable display, the manufacturer is reportedly considering a particularly wide phone. The generous screen is expected to offer ample space for websites, videos, or using two apps simultaneously. Unlike the iPhone Duo, no folding mechanism would apparently be necessary.
Xiaomi Could Opt for a Wide Display
The portal “XimiTime” reports on the plans, citing Chinese tech blogger “Digital Chat Station.” Additional information comes from “IT Home.” According to them, the unusual smartphone could appear under Xiaomi’s subsidiary Redmi. The brand primarily targets buyers looking for an affordable smartphone.
The exact size of the display is not yet known. A comparison can be made with the iPhone Duo: Apple’s foldable phone features an inner screen measuring 7.6 inches diagonally, approximately 19.3 centimeters. Additionally, the device, available since October 23, 2026, has a smaller 5.4-inch display on the outside.

Surprising details about Apple’s foldable iPad have emerged
Without Hinge and Flexible Display
Xiaomi is reportedly considering a smartphone with a wide but fixed screen. A hinge and flexible display would not be required. At the same time, there would be no crease in the middle of the screen, as can occur with foldable devices.

The wider format might also have drawbacks. For instance, operating it with just one hand could become more challenging. However, all of this is pure speculation–exact dimensions and weight are still unknown. There is also no information yet on the camera, battery, or price. Even the possible name of the device is not known.
A Market Launch Could Follow in 2027
The blogger mentions 2027 as a possible launch year. However, Xiaomi is reportedly still evaluating the concept. Concrete details may therefore take some time to emerge.
If the current indications are confirmed, Xiaomi would not be alone with such a smartphone. Rumor has it that Oppo and Honor are also working on wide phones that do not require a folding function.
