Although tech companies regularly refine their products, problems can still arise. That’s why the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) has issued a warning.
The federal agency repeatedly issues information letters to alert consumers to current dangers and security gaps. In doing so, they also provide clear recommendations for action so that users can respond quickly and take appropriate measures. This time, the BSI issued a warning for Apple operating systems, as they no longer meet the necessary security standards.
BSI Warning Affects iOS and iPadOS
According to the new BSI warning, it concerns iOS and iPadOS. Both systems reportedly have several vulnerabilities, with the risk even classified as “high.” Specifically, it involves all iOS versions below the new 18.6. For iPadOS, it is divided into versions 17.7.9 and those before 18.6.
Furthermore, attackers could exploit the existing security gaps in iOS and iPadOS to, for example, expose sensitive data, carry out a “Denial of Service” attack, or generally bypass security measures. Software-related causes for this can include “logic issues, improper input validation, out-of-bounds access/read, and spoofing.”
Affected Devices Must Be Updated
In the BSI warning, security experts recommend the quick installation of the respective updates. In fact, Apple recently rolled out iOS 18.6 and iPadOS 18.6. The update primarily serves to close acute security gaps and fix errors. The company has addressed more than 20 issues for both systems.
The BSI issues warnings at regular intervals, also referring to the latest news from manufacturers. In this case, Apple’s update documents for the new updates were decisive in further informing consumers.
Anyone who has not yet downloaded and installed the respective update should act quickly. They can be found in the settings under “General” and “Software Update.” It is advisable to set automatic updates to avoid losing important time.
