Samsung Health has long been an integral part of health tracking for many users. The app measures steps, pulse, sleep quality, and much more. Now, Samsung is targeting a health factor that is often overlooked: noise pollution. A new feature is set to track how loud everyday life really is and when sounds can become a threat to hearing.
According to “Android Authority,” a so-called “Noise Card” has appeared for the first time in the depths of a current version of the app, which is currently in development. It is designed to measure the average noise level the smartphone registers throughout the day in the background. This allows for a better assessment of everyday noise exposure. The app is supposed to display the values directly on the home screen, providing a quick overview of whether the noise level could become harmful in the long term.
Enhanced Measurement Mode with Warning Function
Samsung is also working on an enhanced measurement mode. This can not only provide daily average values but also specifically warn when certain noise levels are exceeded. The warnings apply to both ambient noises and sounds from apps, such as music, videos, or games. Users can set thresholds and will be notified once they are reached. This is particularly helpful in situations where noise is not consciously perceived but can still be harmful.
When Will the Feature Be Released?
Additionally, a history function is being developed to show how often warnings have been triggered. Samsung plans weekly, monthly, and yearly evaluations. This helps identify whether one is regularly exposed to loud environments or if certain places or times of day are particularly burdensome. This information can aid in developing long-term strategies to protect hearing.
It is still unclear when Samsung will officially release the new feature in Samsung Health. However, the work on it is already visible in the app, so it shouldn’t be too long now.
