We’ve only known car washes for our vehicles so far. But if Finnish inventor Matti Paaso has his way, that’s about to change. He presents a car wash for people!
“Those Finns are crazy!” one might think about this new invention from Scandinavia. However, behind the seemingly bizarre “Humanwash,” the “car wash for people,” lies a clever idea that could help many. TECHBOOK interviewed inventor Matti Paaso about it.
How a Crazy Idea Became Reality
The idea for “Humanwash” came to the now 70-year-old Matti over three years ago. According to him, the Finnish inventor first thought of it in his spare time. The research to see if such a machine already existed was rather brief, as he told TECHBOOK: “I couldn’t find such a machine on YouTube. There were only complete bathrooms.” Four prototypes later, the finished product is available for sale at 4,600 euros.

How “Humanwash” Works
The car wash for people is a device installed next to a shower. Due to its design, the device is not suitable for bathtubs or shower cabins with tubs, but only for walk-in showers with ample space. “Humanwash” consists of a column with a large brush made of soft bristles that is height-adjustable. According to Matti, the machine is powered by two motors—one for the brush and one for its vertical movement. The person showering simply needs to hold their body against the brush, which scrubs automatically. The shower stream is directed at the brush to prevent painful rubbing. How this works in practice is clearly shown in the video.

Many Applications
As mentioned, “Humanwash” requires a lot of space and is therefore not suitable for every household. The inventor recommends its use in hospitals and nursing homes, among other places. The machine comes with ten interchangeable brush heads for different users. Especially older individuals who are not as mobile can regain some quality of life. They should have the opportunity to shower independently again and no longer rely on a caregiver or another person during this intimate moment.
