The smartphone has long taken over many tasks that were once spread across multiple devices. Tickets and travel documents are increasingly stored digitally as well. Google expanded its Wallet app some time ago for this reason.
In addition to traditional payment cards, it now also stores event tickets, transit passes, and flight tickets. With a new feature, the app is evolving further and becoming more active in daily life.
Flight Data Visible Without Opening the App
The new feature is called “Live Updates” and was introduced in May 2025 at the Google I/O. According to the online magazine “9to5Google,” it is now reaching devices with Android 16. Stored flight tickets are displayed directly on the home screen. They also appear in notifications. Users continuously see current information about flight status. Opening the app is no longer necessary to access this data.

The displayed information reacts in real-time to changes. If there are delays or a gate change, the details automatically adjust. This allows users to quickly grasp new developments without having to search for them. Tapping on the notification takes users directly to the corresponding ticket in the Wallet app. Google is following an approach that Apple has been using for some time with its “Live Activities.”
More Modes of Transportation Planned
Initially, the feature focuses on air travel. According to current information, Google plans to expand the rollout. During the initial announcement, the company stated its intention to integrate other modes of transportation in the future, such as train connections. The Wallet builds on existing applications where real-time information is already used, such as Google Maps.
