Instagram is introducing a handy new feature that users have long been waiting for. From now on, the post grid on the profile page can be freely arranged in the app for iOS and Android. Users can finally decide which content visitors see first.
Posts can be freely moved
Until now, Instagram displayed posts on the profile page in reverse chronological order. Newer posts were always at the top, while the oldest were at the bottom of the page. Instagram is finally breaking away from this rigid structure.
As the company announced in posts on Instagram and Threads, users now have “more control over how your content is displayed” with the current app update. The new feature is called “Rearrange Grid” and is intended to “highlight your best content or give your profile more personality.”
The order can be changed on the profile page in the Instagram app for iOS and Android. By pressing and holding a post, the “Rearrange Grid” option appears. When selected, a new page opens where content can be moved to the desired position by dragging. If a mistake is made, the previous version can be restored using the “Undo” button. All changes are saved immediately and are visible to all users after leaving the menu.
New feature has been in the works for a long time
Previously, users could only pin posts to determine which three appear in the top row of the grid. This is still possible–for example, to further highlight special content.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri had already announced the sorting feature in January 2025 in a post on Threads and later in a press release on the Meta site. Before its rollout to all users, it was only available to limited test groups.
The new feature is a small consolation for users who carefully curated profile pages in the then-square grid on the Instagram app. The switch to vertical preview images in early 2025 somewhat disrupted this display. With the free arrangement, it’s now much easier to keep the profile page tidy.
