Google is launching an experiment that might interest many users who dislike making calls: Gemini on Pixel 11 devices can now independently make calls to businesses. The feature is called “Call for Me” and is designed to handle annoying phone calls for users. The AI can, for example, call a restaurant to reserve a table, check with a hardware store if a specific tool is in stock, or reschedule a hair appointment.
How “Call for Me” Works
Google describes the feature as an extension of existing functions like “Hold for Me” and “Direct My Call,” which can already handle automatic hold lines and phone menus.
The user enters a command in the Gemini app, such as “Call Restaurant X and reserve a table for two at 7 p.m. tomorrow.” Gemini summarizes the task, displays the phone number, and asks for confirmation. Then the call begins–using the user’s own phone number. Gemini introduces itself to the person on the other end as an AI assistant, navigates through automated phone menus, waits on hold, and conducts the conversation.
During the call, users can follow the conversation via a live transcription and intervene at any time. A button allows them to take over the call. After the call, users receive a notification with the result and can view the full transcription in the phone app.

These Restrictions Apply
Google has set clear boundaries for the feature. The AI is not allowed to make emergency calls, conduct payments with credit card information, or transmit sensitive information such as passwords, medical records, or Social Security numbers. The feature is also blocked for telemarketing. Additionally, there is a daily call limit, after which users must wait until the next day.
Google emphasizes that Gemini only carries out genuine requests on behalf of real customers and respects the time of businesses and employees. If a business cannot fulfill the request, Gemini politely ends the conversation.
The use of AI in phone calls also has its downsides. Scammers use such technologies to impersonate real people and pressure their victims. Therefore, Google relies on a transparent AI announcement at the start of the call.

Initially Available to Few Users
The feature is launching as an early preview and is highly restricted: It only works on Pixel 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro XL, and 11 Pro Fold in the U.S. Users must have a paid Gemini subscription, starting at $5 per month, and be registered as a beta tester for Google’s phone app.
Additionally, the Gemini app must be up to date. Google wants to test the feature on a small scale initially to improve the technology for different accents and background noises. Google has not announced if or when “Call for Me” will be available for other Android devices or countries.
