Sudden disconnections with Android Auto have recently frustrated many drivers. Google has identified the cause and fixed it with an update.
When Android Auto Suddenly Disconnects
For some users, Android Auto recently kept losing the connection between the smartphone and the infotainment system. Such disconnections apparently occurred especially after the update to version 17.2. Navigation, music, or other functions could be unexpectedly interrupted during the drive.
Google became aware of the issues through complaints in the official support forum. Apparently, a software bug was behind the connection issues. There is now good news for affected drivers: Google has identified the bug and released a corrected version.

Version 17.4 Should Solve the Problem
According to Google, the solution is in Android Auto 17.4. A company employee confirmed in the support forum that the new version is supposed to fix the bug. Those who have recently struggled with connection issues should check which version of Android Auto is installed on their smartphone.
If an older version is still present, an update is worthwhile. This should make the connection between the phone and car stable again. A restart or other extensive measures are not necessary, provided the known software bug was indeed the cause.

Google Is Already Working on 17.5
While version 17.4 is supposed to fix the connection error, Google has already moved on to the next release. Android Auto 17.5 is currently available as a beta version. However, those who only want to eliminate the disconnections do not need to install the test version.
For most users, version 17.4 should suffice. Those who primarily use Android Auto for Google Maps, music, or calls should once again have a reliable connection to the vehicle. After the frequent disconnections recently, this should be a welcome relief for many drivers.
