Deutsche Bahn is gradually rolling out the new update for the DB Navigator app. Some fresh features will be integrated. Along with this, Next DB Navigator will be discontinued.
For quite some time, there have been rumors that Deutsche Bahn wants to update its app. And now it’s happening. The update (version 24.1.0) is being rolled out for the DB Navigator app. However, it’s unclear which devices will receive the updates or whether all users can update simultaneously.
Update for DB Navigator is coming
With this update, the Next DB Navigator app, which was released at the end of 2022 and served as a kind of beta test, will also disappear. Deutsche Bahn states on its website that the parallel operation of the two apps will soon end. A specific date is not mentioned, but it is said that older versions of the DB Navigator app (23.08 and older) will likely no longer be supported from December 2023. Therefore, Next DB Navigator could also completely disappear by the end of the year.

Those who have been using Deutsche Bahn’s app for a long time will know the Sparpreis function. It has also been integrated into the updated version, but under the name “Bestpreis.” When searching for any train journey, you can set the “Show our best prices” slider, and the app will ideally show you affordable offers for the desired route.
Furthermore, occupancy information will still be available so you can know in advance how full the train might be. You also still have the option to book tickets through the app. Additionally, there is digital travel assistance, providing you with the most important information about your journey.
Through the app, you can also obtain information about the train composition on the day of travel and check in advance. If, for example, you missed your (connecting) train or the train was simply late, you can search for alternatives in the app. Bicycle transport on long-distance trains can also be booked via the Bahn app.

Otherwise, there are few functional innovations. However, from the update, you can use the app in dark mode if you prefer darker backgrounds. The menu navigation is much clearer and more intuitive. You can now also buy tickets for dogs and, as mentioned, for bicycles.
