Many devices in German households still operate with batteries. Whether it’s the remote control, the clock or alarm, children’s toys, or the radio. But what if the battery is dead and you only have the smaller AAA battery instead of the larger AA one? That’s where our trick comes in handy.
Turning a small battery into a large one doesn’t require much. Most of what you need is already in your cupboard. You only need a small AAA battery—or several, if the device allows for it—and some aluminum foil. You don’t even need crafting skills to get the devices running again with the battery that’s actually too small. Here’s how the trick works.
How to Turn a Small Battery into a Large One
Step 1: Insert the Small Battery
Place the AAA battery into the battery compartment. The hack works best when the positive terminal of the battery (the side with the protruding bump) is pushed all the way in, leaving only the negative terminal unconnected.
Step 2: Fold the Aluminum Foil

Fold the aluminum foil into a small compact package and use it as an electrical conductor to bridge the gap between the contact and the battery. The foil essentially acts as a bridge and allows the flow of electricity.

Step 3: Done

The smaller and thinner AAA battery is also known as a micro battery. They typically measure about 10 mm in diameter and 44 mm in length and have a lower energy capacity due to their slimmer form. Therefore, this trick is only intended as a temporary solution when a larger battery isn’t readily available. Users should promptly obtain suitable batteries and insert them into the device.
