Apple keeps sports fans updated: The in-house Sports app is now available in Germany just in time for the Bundesliga fall season. It provides real-time results, scores, and statistics for various sports, including soccer, motorsports, and basketball–free and ad-free.
In addition to Germany, the app is now also available in Austria, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Iceland, and Ireland. Previously, Apple Sports was only accessible in the U.S., Mexico, Canada, and the UK. The app runs only on iPhones with iOS 17.2 or newer.
What Apple Sports Offers
According to the press release, Apple Sports aims to be fast and user-friendly: Results are updated in real time, and the interface is minimalist and clearly structured so fans can immediately see the most important information. Fans can follow their favorite teams or leagues directly, allowing them to see key results instantly.
Apple Sports is seamlessly integrated into the Apple ecosystem. Results can be displayed via widgets on the home screen and live activities on the lock screen or even on the Apple Watch. This keeps users informed without having to constantly open the app. Those who want to dive directly into the action can also access Apple TV broadcasts with a click, if available. However, certain content, such as live streams, may be subject to charges and require a separate subscription.

Competition for Live-Ticker Apps?
With Apple Sports, the company ventures into a market previously dominated by traditional live-ticker apps. Whether Apple Sports will become real competition in the future and add more sports or exclusive features remains to be seen. It is possible that iPhone users, in particular, will use the app, appreciating its fast results and minimalist, distraction-free interface.
