Apple is revamping the iPad mini in several key areas. In addition to a new display and more power, it now offers protection against water and dust for the first time.
On October 26, 2026, Apple unveiled the new version of the iPad mini. The iPhone company now equips the tablet with an 8.5-inch OLED display. According to the manufacturer, the display bezels are 24 percent narrower, allowing the device to remain as compact as the previous generation despite the larger screen size. The panel reaches up to 1200 nits peak brightness, and Apple optionally offers nano-texture glass to reduce reflections.
Apple has also improved the casing. At 5.4 millimeters, the new iPad mini is thinner than its predecessor and is IP67-rated for water and dust protection for the first time. However, this protection is not guaranteed permanently. Apple notes that it may diminish with normal wear and tear, and the warranty does not cover liquid damage.
The A20 Pro promises significantly more power
Inside, Apple’s new A20 Pro chip operates with up to six CPU and seven GPU cores. Compared to the previous generation, Apple promises up to 60 percent more multithread performance, up to 2.7 times higher graphics performance, and up to 4.5 times faster AI performance. These are manufacturer claims based on Apple’s own tests from September 2026.
For wireless connections, Apple integrates its N1 chip, which supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread. The cellular models additionally receive the C2 cellular modem. The front camera, with twelve megapixels, is now located on the long side. Also new is an audio system Apple calls the “Acoustic Display,” which uses specialized woofers and tweeters.
Apple Intelligence comes with limitations
The iPad mini runs iPadOS 27, including Apple Intelligence. The features include new image editing options and Image Playground. However, Apple notes that some features are not available in all regions or languages. Certain features that use server-side AI models are subject to daily usage limits.

The iPad mini is available with 128, 256, or 512 gigabytes of storage in Midnight and Starlight. Pre-orders start on October 28, 2026, and the tablet is set to be delivered and available in stores from November 6. The Wi-Fi model starts at 749 euros, and the cellular version at 919 euros. Apple plans to offer extended access to certain limited Apple Intelligence features for a fee in the future.
