TV sets now come in almost every shape and color. LG is closing a market gap with a new device: 42-inch TVs with OLED technology.
At the CES in January 2022, electronics giant LG introduced its new OLED Evo TV C2. This model is the successor to the popular C1. The standout feature: LG offers the TV in six different sizes, including 42 inches–and with OLED technology. The high-quality small TV is now on the market.
OLED Technology in 42-Inch TVs for the First Time
Manufacturer LG Display is a leader in OLED panels. The acronym stands for “Organic Light Emitting Diode,” which describes the underlying technology. The advantage of OLED displays is that the individual pixels emit their own light and therefore do not require backlighting. This results in particularly beautiful images with outstanding contrast and black levels.

Due to the previously exclusive use of OLED technology, smaller TV sets are generally considered less powerful. This is primarily due to production costs; OLED is more expensive than, for example, LED. LG is now taking the step with its C2 model in 42 inches. However, the manufacturer charges a premium: The OLED TV is currently available starting at around 1,130 euros. Compared to other 42-inch models, that’s a hefty price. In return, you get the popular size, which is also excellent for gamers, along with a particularly beautiful picture.

Trend Toward Smaller TV Sets?
Additionally, LG is now simultaneously launching a 97-inch TV–also a first in terms of OLED technology. Overall, the technology is likely to establish itself in the lower size and price segment, having already become well-established in the mid-range.
This summer, Sony also released a 42-inch TV with OLED, the Bravia XR-A90K. Panasonic has announced a similar model for this year; the trend could therefore continue.
