Fans of retro technology have something special to look forward to. A new edition of the iconic C64 is planned, and pre-orders are already underway.
Introduced in 1982, the Commodore 64, or simply C64, quickly became the gold standard for home computers. It played a significant role in the spread and popularization of video games at home, and to this day, it has numerous fans worldwide. Although it was considered a nostalgic piece of the past, no longer in production for decades, a new chapter in the company’s history has been opened, paving the way for a C64 revival.
C64 Revival Now Available for Preorder
On the Commodore website, the C64 revival is available under the name Commodore 64 Ultimate in three versions. All feature a recreated original motherboard with the names/signatures of C64 creators from past and present engraved on it. They also include an AMD Artix 7 FPGA chip, 128 MB DDR2 RAM, and 16 MB flash memory. HDMI, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi connectivity are also available.
The C64 revival is compatible with more than 10,000 original game cartridges and comes with a USB cartridge containing 50 games. The base version of the Ultimate edition is in classic beige. The “Starlight” and “Founders” editions feature illuminated cases. The latter also includes 24-karat gold plaques, gold keys, and special merchandise. Additionally, the “Founders” edition is limited to just 6,400 units.
Currently, Commodore is offering small discounts and the opportunity to save an additional ten percent when purchasing two units. The duration of these offers is unclear. The standard prices for the C64 revival models are as follows:
- BASIC: 299.59 euros
- Starlight: 342.39 euros
- Founders: 470.79 euros
The odd amounts are likely due to the conversion from U.S. dollars to euros. Delivery of orders is expected to begin in October of this year.

Buying a Commodore? YouTuber Receives Surprise Offer
Commodore Finds a New Home
The announcement of the C64 Ultimate comes shortly after the Commodore brand changed hands again. Previously, YouTuber Christian Simpson was only seeking a licensing agreement but suddenly received an offer to buy Commodore outright–TECHBOOK reported.

At the time, Simpson was undecided about whether to proceed with the purchase. As reported by “Tom’s Hardware,” he did go through with it, and the brand was sold for a “low seven-figure sum.” In an accompanying video, Simpson shares details of the deal and his vision. Additionally, well-known figures from Commodore’s history will be involved in reviving the brand.
Although the acquisition of the brand name itself is reportedly secure, there is still a lack of funds to properly start and sustain operations. They are still seeking investors.
