Cosplayers are as much a part of Gamescom as the video games themselves. This year, too, there were many breathtaking costumes to see!
Although the Cosplay Area at Gamescom 2023 is almost hidden behind the merchandise section, it draws a huge crowd. No wonder! This year, cosplayers are once again gathering in their extravagant and detailed costumes. A visit is definitely worthwhile! TECHBOOK was also on-site and got a firsthand look.
These Cosplay Costumes Particularly Impressed Us at Gamescom 2023
After Gamescom 2023 kicked off on Tuesday, August 22, with the Opening Night Live, several costumed attendees were already seen on the fairgrounds by the following Wednesday, which is actually designated as a press day. The official start for the Cosplay Area, however, was on Thursday when the fair opened to visitors.
Since then, creative costumes have been visible all over the grounds and beyond. Even in downtown Cologne, it was hard to miss that Gamescom was underway, as cosplayers could be seen everywhere.
Not only video games but also characters from movies and series are represented among the cosplayers, with a few even being completely self-designed. Some of the costumed attendees invest weeks of work into crafting their elaborate outfits–only to groan and sweat under the weight. We still think the effort is worth it, as there were some really cool cosplays again this year.
If you want, you can choose the best costume in the Cosplay Contest on the Gamescom site. Just sign up and pick your favorite from the finalists.
What is Gamescom?
The Gamescom is one of the largest video game trade fairs in the world. The event takes place annually in Cologne and attracts international exhibitors and audiences. TECHBOOK is currently reporting live from the scene. What were the best teasers of the Opening Night? And which indie games should you keep an eye on? We also got to test some games still in development, like “Stalker 2” or “Towerborne”!
