The PS5 Slim is reportedly worsening in terms of internal storage, but there’s a good reason for it.
When the PlayStation 5 was released in 2020, its limited storage was a widely discussed weakness. The console offered only 825 gigabytes of SSD storage, with less than 700 gigabytes available for games. The introduction of the PS5 Slim initially brought an improvement, as it hit the market with one terabyte of storage space. However, a development is now emerging that may disappoint many fans: The PS5 Slim appears to be worsening in this aspect once again.
PS5 Slim Worsens in Storage Capacity
According to reports from “wccftech.com” and “dealabs.com“, Sony plans to ship the Digital Edition of the PS5 Slim in Europe with a reduced SSD of 825 gigabytes. This would worsen the PS5 Slim compared to the previous terabyte version, which was considered a plus. The reason behind this is an attempt to keep the price stable despite rising production costs and trade tariffs. In Germany, the price is currently 499.99 euros—already 100 euros more than the original model from 2020.
While buyers are paying more, they are getting less storage—the PS5 Slim worsens in a key area. Especially users of the Digital Edition, who rely solely on downloads, may see this as a setback.
Possible Market Launch as Early as September 2025
Sony has not officially confirmed the adjustment yet, but sources report a launch on September 13, 2025, in Europe. Information for other markets is still lacking. Why specifically the European version is affected remains unclear.

The fact is: Those opting for the PS5 Slim Digital Edition may soon have to make do with less storage—the PS5 Slim noticeably worsens its price-performance ratio. The version with a Blu-ray drive, however, seems to remain unchanged and still costs 549.99 euros.
