Just weeks before the launch of “GTA 6,” the PlayStation 5 Pro is becoming a test of patience and cost for many buyers. The console is in short supply in many places, while prices are climbing to unprecedented heights.
On November 19, “GTA 6,” one of the most anticipated games in recent years, will be released. The upcoming launch is already having a significant impact on the console market. The PlayStation 5 Pro is currently in high demand, as Rockstar promotes it as an optimized platform for the game. Many fans seem eager to switch to the more powerful model before the release.

The increasing demand is now clearly reflected in the prices. According to comparison sites such as Idealo, the PS5 Pro often costs more than 1,300 euros in Germany. At some retailers, prices are even around 1,800 euros. At the same time, the console is sold out or only available in limited quantities at various vendors.
Prices Far Exceed the Original MSRP
The current trend is remarkable because the console was initially much cheaper. At launch, the manufacturer’s suggested retail price was around 800 euros. After a later price adjustment by Sony, the MSRP increased to about 900 euros. However, some retailers are now demanding significantly higher amounts.
The tense situation is also evident in the used market. According to “PC Games,” even refurbished consoles are being offered at premium prices. In the U.S., offers for so-called refurbished devices have appeared, reportedly costing up to 1,499 U.S. dollars. Internal notes at the retail chain GameStop have also clarified that these are not pricing errors.
Whether the Upgrade Is Worth It Remains Unclear
It seems likely that the enormous demand is primarily due to “GTA 6.” However, there is no official evidence for this. Industry observers point to supply chain issues and the general market situation for hardware components as possible factors influencing the price development, in addition to the game hype.
Those who want to play “GTA 6” at launch do not necessarily have to opt for the PS5 Pro. The regular PlayStation 5, as well as Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, are still readily available. How significant the actual advantages of the Pro version will be in Rockstar’s new open-world game will likely only become clear after its release.
