The current generation of gaming consoles is more powerful than ever before, offering unprecedented possibilities. Yet, many gamers around the world regularly take a trip back in time to when graphics were blocky and pixelated, and games fit on bulky cartridges. The Nintendo 64 (or N64 for short) remains very popular. Officially, the device has long been out of production. However, relief is on the way in the form of the Analogue 3D, which fans should keep an eye on.
Analogue 3D is an N64 Replica
The Analogue 3D is a new retro console that reimagines Nintendo’s classic. So if you want to dust off the old “Super Mario Kart 64” and race with friends, you’ll soon be able to do so.
All old N64 cartridges are expected to work with the Analogue 3D. It doesn’t use emulation but rather FPGA technology. This should allow the new hardware to function like the original, ensuring compatibility with the old cartridges.
Old Games Shine in New 4K Glory
Players won’t have to worry about their eyesight due to blurry old graphics. Analogue promises 4K resolution for gaming classics, which is ten times higher than back in the mid-1990s. However, for those who prefer a more vintage look, alternative screen modes can replicate the appearance of an old CRT television.
Like the original N64, the Analogue 3D comes with four controller ports. It will be region-free, equipped with Bluetooth and two USB ports. It will also feature Wi-Fi, HDMI support, and an SD card slot.

Shipments Now Starting in August
A controller is not included. However, if you have an original N64 controller lying around, you can easily use it. Alternatively, there’s the new 8BitDo 64 Controller, available for $39.99, which is compatible with the Analogue 3D as well as the Nintendo Switch, Windows, and Android.

As reported by “The Verge,” the Analogue 3D was originally slated for release in 2024, but that has not happened yet. The manufacturer can no longer meet a July 2025 shipment either, as stated in a FAQ section. Instead, Analogue is now aiming for August of this year. The reason for the latest delay is new changes in customs fees, as the company explained on X. Fans need not worry about additional charges, as Analogue promises to cover the extra costs. Those who have fully paid for the console as pre-order customers need not take any further action.
Until shipment, you can cancel your pre-order at any time and receive a full refund. However, if you want to secure a unit now, you’re too late: the Analogue 3D is currently sold out.
