Microsoft is shrinking the Xbox controller. With the “Xbox Nano Controller,” the company is launching a standalone gamepad that significantly differs from the well-known standard model. It is designed to be practical on the go and to accommodate players with smaller hands.
The name Nano is quite literal. The controller measures just under 13 centimeters and weighs less than 100 grams. For comparison, a regular Xbox controller is about 16 centimeters and around 280 grams. Visually, Microsoft is taking a new direction. The Nano model looks edgier and, with its compact form, is somewhat reminiscent of a smartphone.
Microsoft emphasizes that the controller should fit comfortably in a jacket or pants pocket. This model could be interesting for anyone who wants to use a classic controller when visiting friends. Due to its small dimensions, the Xbox Nano might also appeal to children and teenagers.
18 Input Options Despite Mini Format
However, gamers will hardly have to make any compromises in operation. The Xbox Nano offers 18 input options. These include two analog sticks, a directional pad, four shoulder buttons, and several action buttons. An additional button can be freely programmed and used for screenshots or game recordings.

Unlike the regular Xbox Wireless Controller, the Nano has an integrated battery that is charged via USB-C. There are no details on battery life yet. The Xbox Nano Controller is already available for pre-order. The release date is planned for November 4, 2026. The price is 49.99 euros.
