The stereotype persists stubbornly in many parts of society: Video games are mostly for kids. In reality, not only do many adults play them, but there are also increasing numbers of so-called silver players, or seniors, who enjoy video games. Recently, an elderly woman was so engrossed in a session that she even prompted a response from local authorities.
Police Responds to Suspected Emergency
Games are not only fun. They can also help improve concentration and coordination and generally keep the brain fit. That’s why it’s recommended for seniors to also engage in video games. There are now even special offerings for silver players.
In the U.S. state of Ohio, a curious incident occurred, as reported by “News 5 Cleveland.” A 91-year-old woman did not respond one day to the daily check-in call as part of the city’s “Are You Okay” program. This program makes calls to people living alone or with physical limitations to check on their well-being. If there is no response, the police are dispatched immediately.
Senior Too Engrossed in Video Game
In the case of the 91-year-old, there was also no response. After her daughter also failed to reach her, police officers used a provided garage code to access the house. What they found brought relief and laughter: The grandmother was simply engrossed in a video game and otherwise in good health.
Allegedly, she wanted to beat her own high score. Unfortunately, the report does not specify which video game it was. According to “19 News,” it was a “bubble popping” game, one of the popular puzzle games especially favored on smartphones. The senior with a penchant for video games was reportedly grateful for the visit. It is not known if she succeeded in her quest for a high score.
