Telekom aims to significantly reduce its costs in the coming years by increasingly relying on artificial intelligence and automated processes. At the same time, AI is expected to generate new revenue for the company and be used in various services for private and business customers.

Telekom Aims to Save Billions with AI

By 2027, Telekom plans to save approximately 1.1 billion euros outside the U.S. compared to 2023. By 2030, indirect costs are expected to be around 2.5 billion euros below the level at that time. The company presented these goals on Monday at the AI Investor Day in Bonn. Telekom intends to use part of the additional savings to advance fiber-optic expansion in Germany and its own digital transformation.

AI is already taking on tasks in customer service. According to the company, the Telekom chatbot “Frag Magenta” handled about 2.6 million customer calls in the first half of 2026. AI also assists in conversations with employees by providing relevant information and documenting customer concerns.

AI to Support Mobile Network

Artificial intelligence is also expected to assist in operating the mobile network. It can detect when an overload is imminent, such as during large events, allowing technicians to respond earlier. According to Telekom, handling such cases used to take several hours, but now it takes only about a minute.

For the increased use of technology, the company has already trained more than 100,000 employees in handling AI. However, Telekom’s statement leaves one question unanswered: whether the growing use of artificial intelligence will lead to job losses.

Telekom Plans New AI Services

AI is not only expected to reduce costs for Telekom but also to generate additional revenue in the future. For companies outside the U.S., the group aims for around 800 million euros in revenue by 2030. A platform is expected to take over routine tasks in customer service or deliveries.

For private customers, the “Magenta AI Assistant” is planned. It is expected to translate and summarize phone conversations live without the need for an additional app or new device.

In addition, Telekom already offers other AI services. “Business GPT” creates texts for companies and summarizes content, using their own data. Companies receive computing power for AI projects through the AI factory in Munich. Private users can get answers to everyday questions via “Magenta AI” in the MeinMagenta app and on the T Phone 3 with Perplexity.
