Fritz! (formerly AVM) is releasing another update with Fritz!OS 8.25 for its routers, repeaters, and other devices. The goal of the new version is to fix known issues that arose after the major update to Fritz!OS 8.20. The focus is on problems with internet speed and connection stability. Additionally, the manufacturer is providing a new beta version that can be tested in advance.
Errors in Hardware Acceleration Corrected
The update centers on an error in hardware acceleration. This feature is supposed to process data faster. However, in practice, data packets were lost, leading to reduced speeds and network disruptions.
Some users reported significant performance losses and unstable connections. The models primarily affected were Fritzbox 5690, Fritzbox 5690 Pro, Fritzbox 4690, and Fritzbox 7690. In the meantime, Fritz!OS 8.22 had already brought an initial improvement. With version 8.25, the manufacturer now provides a final solution. According to Fritz!, the faulty processing of data packets has been fixed, allowing the devices to run stably again.
As a temporary solution, users could disable hardware acceleration. In this case, the CPU takes over processing, which is slower but more reliable.

Fritzbox Update Suddenly Slows Down Internet
These Devices Receive the Update First
Initially, AVM is distributing the update to the Fritzbox 6660 Cable and the 6591 Cable. The Fritz!Repeater 600 is also being updated. More devices will follow in the coming weeks, but the manufacturer does not specify exact dates.
Fritz!OS 8.25 does not include new features. Instead, the update focuses on bug fixes and stability improvements. These also include corrected display issues in the user interface and minor system optimizations. For cable routers, the interface for the TV tuner has been revised.
Installation is done as usual via the Fritzbox user interface. It can be accessed at https://fritz.box or the IP address 192.168.178.1. For devices from internet providers, distribution may be delayed as providers need to approve the updates.
